Who Is Belco?

Over 50 years ago, Belco pioneered hiring onsite Licensed Opticians to provide prescription safety eyewear to local manufacturing companies. Today, we offer both onsite and off-site services from dispensing optometrists across Canada.

We are continually adopting the newest safety standards. In our early days, we dispensed hardened glass before evolving to CR-39 plastic. Today, we use Tuf-N-Lite prescription lenses. This polycarbonate material is 10 times more impact resistant and 40% lighter and thinner than CR-39, with a 99.5% UV absorption rate.

At Belco, we have the largest range of CSA/ANSI certified prescription safety glasses in Canada. This selection means we can find appropriate eye protection for virtually anyone within any budget. Our experienced Licensed Opticians are uniquely qualified to fit our wide selection of prescription and non-prescription eyewear, ensuring wearer compliance with enhanced comfort.

To protect our clients and ourselves, Belco has invested in liability insurance for the company and our opticians, WSIB clearance for onsite visits, and ISO certification for quality assurance.

Our full-service, onsite optical lab features state-of-the-art computerized equipment dedicated to bringing the highest quality lenses to industry, optometric dispensing clinics, and retail stores.

Belco is widely recognized as a leader in manufacturing polycarbonate lenses under our Tuf-N-Lite name. Belco is also accredited by the College of Opticians of Ontario in recognition of our state-of-the-art onsite laboratory. This accreditation allows opticians to obtain credit by attending a seminar or tour of our lab.

Belco lenses comply with CSA certification standards. All our lenses are monogrammed (CSA clause 6.2.4) and are produced to meet current impact requirements (CSA clause 6.2.3.2.1). Trust that any lens purchased from us meets all required performance standards.
